We call the creation of this gym DESTINY! A wish for one youth team mushroomed into our own gym and teams for all ages including a top USASF Worlds Large Senior 5 team!!! Maryland Marlins All-Stars began in the fall of 1997 when 12 girls came, 12 girls tried out and 12 girls made the team in the Mayfield Woods Middle School gym. With the commitment and enthusiasm of our founder Terri Curley, Maryland Marlins opened our gym in 2002 and has grown into 7 travel teams, 4 non-travel teams, over 20 staff members and 160 cheer athletes!
As part of the Maryland Marlins organization you will feel like a member of a big family. We not only train technique in our athletes, but also inspire responsibility, dedication, and confidence in order to build strong leaders both on and off the competition floor. Our mission is to train excellence in a positive, instructional and disciplined yet fun environment!
All athletes will have a home here at the Maryland Marlins regardless of age or skill level. We take immense pride in providing all of our athletes with outstanding instruction. Classes are also designed with age and ability level in mind. Through these opportunities we hope to instill a strong self-esteem and sense of pride in every athlete!!

HELP SAVE MARYLAND ACROBATICS & TUMBLING!
As you probably know, Acrobatics and Tumbling at the University of Maryland has been identified for elimination as of July 1, 2012, due to the Department of Intercollegiate Athletics’ current financial situation and projected budget deficit.
We have been given the opportunity to Save Acrobatics and Tumbling if we are able to raise enough money by June 30, 2012, to fund the operation of the team for an eight-year period. Monies raised for this effort will be held in escrow with the University of Maryland College Park Foundation. You can visit umterps.com for a complete list of frequently asked questions about donations to the Save Our Sports campaign.

(Ellicott City, Maryland)—Competing in Orlando, Florida last weekend against the best teams from around the world, the Maryland Marlins Tsunami cheerleading team claimed 4th place after overcoming obstacles “unprecedented” in the world of cheerleading.
After nervously waiting each day to perform two critical 2.30 minute routines that would determine the world’s best cheerleading team, the Tsunami girls were forced to stop in the middle of both of their performances. In the first performance, the capacity arena was plunged into total darkness when the lights went out. In their second and final performance, one of their top tumbling and stunt team members went down in the middle of the performance with a torn ACL.
Rather than immediately being able to pick up where they left off and complete their performance, on both occasions the girls were directed backstage for a lengthy wait. Then both times they were required to re-perform their entire demanding routine from the beginning. While other teams only performed their routines twice, the Tsunami girls were required to perform their routine an unprecedented four times over the 2-day competition. And despite the added pressure of additional waits, and a last minute substitution for their injured team-mate, the Tsunami girls held it together and delivered four near perfect performances.
Although finishing 4th place in the world--a phenomenal feat for a somewhat newcomer to their division--the team’s tenacity and handling of the pressure won the admiration from the capacity crowd, including drawing unsolicited praise from the veteran judges and organizers of the event.
“I’ve never seen anything like it,” wrote one judge. “How those Maryland girls were able to overcome the obstacles thrown in front of them and still perform so well is beyond me.”

We would like to sincerely thank the Maryland Marlins on running a fantastic cheerleading program. The Splash cheerleading team experience has done wonders for my daughters self esteem and confidence. The staff, especially coach Melanie, went beyond what we expected and taught the girls, not only cheerleading basics, but how to work as a team. The girls had a blast, and barely noticed the hard work they were putting into their routine. Not only did it pry her away from her video games, it got her in shape and helped her learn to focus. I would recommend this program to any parent, this has been an experience my daughter will treasure for the rest of her life.
~Sincerely,
Tthe Neutzling Family

My daughter started cheering with the Maryland Marlins two years ago on the recommendation of a family friend that heard we were looking for a gym. Never having cheered before we were unsure what to expect but the Marlins welcomed us both with open arms and have made us feel right at home!! Having started without a skill level, her coaches, both for cheer and tumbling, have pushed her to reach for new heights through their dedication to each and every individual. In the past two years my daughter has learned not only how to be a strong athlete, but she is also being taught commitment, dedication, generosity, and how to have a friendly competitive spirit through being part of the Marlins Team, skills that will carry her through life and build confidence. The coaches do an amazing job of making each practice fun and making every competition special.
Thank you Marlins for all that you have taught my daughter and we hope to cheer with you for years to come!!!!!

To Whom it May Concern,
I have been meaning to send this email since Worlds. I was so impressed by the girls on Tsunami. Not only by their level of skill but by their attitudes. I was there watching them Saturday and Sunday. When the lights went out mid routine and their flawless performance had to be stopped, they "spirited" off the floor. When they came out a second time and hit their routine I was amazed. I don't know how their coaches kept them focused and how they kept their adrenaline up? It was a pleasure to watch. On Sunday, they hit the floor like winners and were hitting again until an injury. Once again, their routine was stopped and they cheered all the way back stage. When your team was interviewed back stage I was in tears. I don't know who the spokesperson was but what she said about getting to compete for a 4th time at Worlds and how being the underdog defined her season was so eloquent. It is apparent that these girls were a family and had composure beyond their years. You know, not everyone had perfect performances at Worlds. Not everything went everyone's way. But your girls had such grace, you must have been beyond proud! And of course, they came out for a 4th time, minus a flyer, and hit again! To me, Tsunami was the most memorable team at Worlds.
On a side note, my daughter cheers for Florida Top Dog Allstars Coed 5 in Florida. She has been a huge fan of your team this season as well as last. We ran into some of your parents at Spirit of Hope in NC. I told them how much my daughter was looking forward to seeing them and they were like, "How does she know about us?" It was cute explaining to them that Tsunami is a big deal and there is a lot of buzz about them in the "cheerleading world"!
I just wanted you to know what many around me were thinking at Worlds...
Good luck in 2011-2012!
~Karen Baker
